What can I use the service for?Volunteer drivers will pick you up at your home at the time you ask and they will take you on either a local drive or an out-of-town drive. Local: Local transportation is available for necessary shopping, banking, postal services, etc. There is a time limit on this service of 2 hours maximum. Also available locally are trips to medical appointments which do not have a time limit (doctor, hospital, dental, etc.). Out-of-Town: Out of town transportation is available for medical appointments ONLY. The client is taken directly to and from their medical appointment by the volunteer driver who stays with them for the entire trip. Clients pay a fee at the time of the drive and the driver gives a receipt that must be signed. The client is also responsible for any parking fees associated with the drive. If a meal is had on the way, the client is not responsible for the driver’s meal. For fee schedule, please contact Home Support. Home Support DriversAll of the drivers from Home Support are volunteers are trained by staff. They are also all screened using a OPP Police /Vulnerable Sector Check. Drivers are instructed on the importance of being courteous and attentive to your needs and have been asked not to smoke, play loud music or speed. Drivers are also informed about the importance of confidentiality of information they receive while performing a drive. If you have complaints about a particular drive or driver please call the home support office about your complaint. Clients are asked to show the same courtesies to drivers, as they are a volunteer donating their time. |
